Note: This blog post wasn’t planned. Due to a number of requests for NYC Garment District fabric shop recommendations I decided to quickly write up this blog post. As I make trips back into the city in the next few months, I will take better photos and update this blog.
A Little About Me 🙂
HI, I’m Mary Anne~ often known as Sew Mary Mac on Instagram and my blog. You may see me post in various Facebook Groups as Mary Anne MacLean. I’m also an Ambassador for Love Notions Patterns, an avid pattern tester and confirmed Fabricholic. I’m a retired FCS teacher (Home Economics) but began my career as a Technical Writer then Fabric Library Coordinator for Simplicity Pattern Company back in the 80’s. (I still have a collection of fabrics I was gifted by various manufacturers when I worked there!)
I have ALWAYS loved fabric (my BS degree was in Textiles). I will admit to being a Fabric “snob”. I love good quality fabrics. Good quality doesn’t always mean expensive. So many of my favorite fabrics that I have sewn up are from the Garment District in NYC all purchased at great prices!
So many of the stores I visited in the 80’s as I walked through the Garment District to the bus station are gone. During the 90’s and early 2000’s I rarely visited the Garment District. (My children were young) However, back in 2006-2010 when my oldest daughter attended FIT in NYC, we began to visit all the shops again. I’ve been shopping there ever since!
Where Is The Garment District?
The Garment District is located in Midtown Manhattan, primarily between 35th and 40th streets between 6th and 9th Avenues. Within this district you will find:
Designer Showrooms
Designer Studios
Manufacturers Headquarters
Fabric Stores
Notions and Trims Stores
The area you will find almost all of the fabric stores are 35th-39th Streets between 7th and 8th Avenues. NYC is a big grid. The Avenues run North and South. The Streets run East and West. Addresses in the 200’s are between 7th and 8th Avenues. (100’s between 8th and 9th/300’s between 7th and Broadway/6th)
*Unless noted otherwise, all shops listed below are located between 7th and 8th Avenues.
**On the map below, 7th Avenue is labeled as Fashion Avenue as it also called. Avenue of the Americas is 6th Avenue. Note: Broadway runs diagonal between 6th and 7th Avenues.

What I’m Sewing This Week~
This week I’m finishing up my new Sloane Sweaters. I made a wearable muslin of the Sloane since it had been a few years since I had sewn up View A. View A is a slimmer fit than View B. (I’ve sewn plenty of the View B as sweatshirts) The pattern I had traced out was an XL with FBA graded out to a 2X. Lately I have been sewing a 2X graded to a 3X on newer patterns I’ve been making. Going by the fit of the purple knit version seen above, I kept the XL in the shoulder and neckline area (as my Upper bust measurement in just below the 2X). I graded to the 2X for the sleeve and side seams. I’m was happy with my “test” version and I moved on to sewing the ones from my Fall Plans list.
To see my full collection of Sloane Sweaters you can visit this blog post. These are mostly older versions as I had kinda stepped away from this pattern for a bit. I will eventually update this blog post with photos of my newer version.
I’ve been outside quite a bit taking advantage of the milder weather so I haven’t gotten as much done as I planned. I love riding my bike and I’m trying to get as many rides in before it just gets too cold!
My Fall Sewing Plans~
I’ve really stuck to my Fall sewing plan list! I’m really really really trying hard not to add anything. Clearly I won’t finish this list before Fall is officially over~ but I will continue to work on this into the winter. Come late January/February I like to begin spring sewing anyway.

The first place I would shop for fabric for the Resolutions would be Surge Fabrics. They have a great selection of activewear fabrics. You can find them HERE.
For the Thomas Track Pants
Raspberry Creek Sweatshirt Fleece~ this fabric is perfect for the Thomas Track Pants! Warm and snuggly and stable enough to sew up nicely in this pattern!
I find this fabric so warm and cozy yet not as heavy or bulky as some sweatshirt fleece. It has a slight heathered appearance due to the rayon content which just adds to its appeal. There are so many color coordinated options in the shop right now. (And you can also print custom designs on it as well!)
The New Opus Vest is now available at release week pricing, $9.50, today through next Monday 11/3/2025. You can get an additional 10% off my using my code 10MACSEWS. THIS is THE perfect addition to your Fall wardrobe.
The Details
I did not test the Opus Vest pattern, but as a Love Notions Ambassador I was able to get my hands on the pattern last week. I rushed over the weekend to get one sewn up for today’s release and I am so glad that I did! Talk about a satisfying sew with professional detailing! I simply love the. lining method~ it’s a little different than other techniques I’ve used~ but I really love the way it looks!
This is just the piece that I didn’t know my wardrobe needed! The Opus can be casual or business-like~ the choice is yours! I sewed up my version in a lightweight baby wale corduroy (a Designer Deadstock from LA Finch Fabrics last year). Come Spring, I am definitely sewing one up in linen!

Sizing & Fit
The Opus Vest is available in sizes XS-5X. A Full Bust pattern piece is included (like all new and updated LN patterns). Choose your vest size based upon your high bust measurement. If in-between sizes choose the smaller size.
If your full bust is more than 4″ larger than your high bust, use the included Full Bust Front pattern piece. Remember that if you use the full bust pattern pieces, 2″ will be added to the Finished Measurements of the waist and hip.
The Opus Vest is designed to be worn with or with out layers. If you plan on wearing it over a heavier shirt or sweater you may want to size up. The regular length version is meant to hit at the high hip on the average 5’5″ woman. The cropped version is approximately 4″ shorter.
My Fit & Modifications
For my version of the Opus Vest I made a 2X with the Full bust piece graded out to a 3X for my hips. This is exactly where my measurements fall on the sizing chart. My high bust is 42″ while my full bust is 46″. (This is a tad larger than I typically measure myself, but because of the fitted style of the Opus you must not “cheat” with your numbers~ as much as we all want to!)
Normally I always grade out one size for just my hips, but because of the princess seams I graded out to the 3X for my waist as well. I typically don’t sew or wear clothing that is as fitted as the Opus, so normally I don’t have to worry about my waist. You MUST take your waist measurement into account here.
When grading out for my waist and hips~ I only graded out on the side seams. I graded on the princess seams on my muslin~ and I found that I had a little “flair” at that spot and it wouldn’t lay flat. I removed that excess on my muslin and then it was fine.
It is also a good idea to check the Finished Measurements Chart so you can see exactly how much ease is included. Remember that wearing ease is important and just because those measurements are larger than the Body Measurements, it doesn’t mean you can use them to choose your size. Wearing ease in needed so you can actually move in your finished garment.
PLEASE MAKE A MUSLIN!!! Use just the front and back pieces. Stitch the princess seams and the side and shoulder seams. Assess the fit. Pay close attention to the length through the body~ make sure the waist it hitting you in the right spot. I am only 5 feet tall, however I am not short waisted, so the waist fit me in the correct spot. I am shorter from my waist to my full hip, which is why the vest may appear longer on me than on other testers. I can not stress this enough~ MAKE THE MUSLIN! I used a piece of quilting cotton from my deep stash.
After making my muslin~ I also determined that I had some excess fabric under the arm. This is something that I always wind up getting on any sleeveless garment. I know that from sewing my own clothes for so long, that I often have to take sleeveless garments in just under the arm. This is very common for those with a fuller bust. Patterns can’t always account for our bust size and position. I correct this by taking in the underarm at the side seam. I do that on the Side Front and Side Back pattern pieces. The photo below shows the alteration I’ve made to the pattern in green. Again~ a perfect example of why a muslin is important. You wouldn’t want to realize this AFTER you have already sewn your vest together lining and all!
I found the back belt to be a tad long for the larger sizes. I wound up cutting off 1″ length off of each one. Be sure to check this BEFORE you attach the belt to the center back piece. If will pretty involved to shorten this later on.
Fabrics & Notions
The Opus Vest is designed for light to medium weight wovens. Fabrics such as linen, chambray, poplin and broadcloth are recommended in the pattern. I feel that some other lightweight fabrics that would work nicely as well would be: corduroy, wool blends, wool suiting , flannel and even denim. Fabrics that have a bit more structure and not too much drape would look best. For Fall and Winter I think the Robert Kaufmann Mammoth Flannels would be perfect for the Opus. Although the pattern is designed for wovens, I think a stable knit would work as well, as long as it wasn’t too bulky. Any fabric, woven or stable knit if too bulky wouldn’t allow the points in the front to have a crisp appearance.
Make sure to scroll to the bottom to my Fabric Resources section! I’ve already added a linen version to my Spring Sewing Plans for 2026!
I highly recommend taking a look at all the tester versions paying close attention to the fabrics they have used to get a better idea how the fabric you choose may work. Remember different fabrics can create garments that look very different.
A silky fabric is recommended for the lining of the Opus. I purchased an inexpensive polyester satin from Hobby Lobby for my version. I typically like to order Bemberg rayon for lining my me mades. See the “Fabric Resources” section below.
NOTIONS

Interfacing
Sew Mary Mac’s Tips For Sewing The Opus
Be sure to mark ALL notches and lines. You’ll be happy you did later!
Be sure to mark the welt pocket placement
These are the + signs you see on the center front and side front pieces
If your fabric has a bit more drape, consider interfacing the entire front pieces with a lightweight tricot interfacing (see link below)
If sewing the full bust pattern pieces and your fabric is very structured, you may find it helpful to run a basting stitch on the side front piece to help ease it to fit to the center front piece. I had trouble with one of my test fit versions and a basting stitch would have helped to fit those piece together.
PRESS, PRESS, PRESS!
PRESSING IS IMPORTANT! Pressing makes a difference!
Helps you create “Handmade” professional looking garments instead of “handmade” ones.
Press all princess seams open, front and back
I highly recommend using a Tailor’s Ham for this (especially for the Full Bust option)
Don’t have one? Add it to your Holiday Wish List ~ see below for links

Fabric & Notions Resources
When giving fabric resources to my readers, I try to only include those that I have personally shopped at along with those that I know that my fellow LN Ambassadors and sewing creators have used. This doesn’t mean that other shops aren’t good to shop at. Online shopping for fabric isn’t always easy and many of my readers aren’t comfortable with it (yet).
Lining Fabrics
Pongee~ a polyester fabric that is another great lining choice. It has a smooth surface and soft drape.
Cali Fabrics has about 40+ colors of Designer Deadstock Pongee lining for $3.99 per yard. You can find them HERE.
Charmeuse Satin~ is a slightly heavier lining fabric that is great for vest and coats. Cali Fabrics has 40+ colors available at $3.99 per yard. You can see them HERE.
Note about Cali Fabrics. This is a family run store. Ron who makes videos of the new fabrics each week is very knowledgeable about fabric. I would recommend them for any type of fabric you are looking for.
I was able to grab some polyester satin fabric at Hobby Lobby for $6.99 (30% off). They have it in 12+ colors. I was really happy with this lining fabric, and in the future I would have no problem with using it again.
My go to fabric for lining is Bemberg that I purchase from the NYC garment district or a local sewing center (Stitch N Sew) but I didn’t have time to get any for this project. Although my local shop is only one town over~ it is not easily accessible as they are not open or Friday and Saturday.
What exactly is Bemberg? Bemberg lining is a high-quality, breathable, and anti-static fabric made from cotton linter, a byproduct of cotton production. It has a silky feel and is used as a luxurious lining in high-end garments like suits, jackets, and dresses because it is comfortable, durable, and drapes well. Bemberg is generally very durable. It’s resistant to tears and rips. While some very high-end suit manufacturers and consumers have long championed silk as the ultimate lining, it isn’t nearly as strong or long-lasting as Bemberg. Bemberg is also more comfortable and less expensive than silk.
WHERE TO BUY BEMBERG?
B & J Fabrics~NYC Garment District, this is where I purchase mine, 71 colors available
My favorite flannel is Robert Kaufman Mammoth Flannel which is one the thickest and best quality flannels I have ever worked with. They can be found in many online shops (and even quilt shops). Simply search in your favorite online shop. They can also be found in the following shops.
Style Maker Fabrics also carries a “Cozy Flannel” which is very similar to Mammoth Flannel. I have sewn this flannel up as well and it just gets softer and softer with each wash. They have many plaids AND prints available. You can find them HERE.
WOOL & WOOL SUITING
Light to Medium weight wool/wool blend suitings would sew up beautifully for an Opus Vest. A very classic look that could be both casual styled with jeans, or work appropriate with trousers (think LN Bridget Trousers) or a skirt ( LN Encore Skirt). When shopping for wools, the keyword to look for would be “suiting”. My top shop for this would absolutely be Cali Fabrics! For the price and quality you can’t beat this shop!
Cali Fabrics~ They have a huge selection of wool suitings, many being designer deadstocks from NYC. There are many to choose from and they would all make gorgeous Opus Vests. Check them out HERE.
Style Maker Fabrics~ also has a nice selection of Suiting fabrics. Some are rather expensive, but there are some that are very reasonable. This is one shop you never need to worry about what you will get in the mail! You can see them HERE.
CORDUROY
Different corduroys will result in different looks. I used a soft lightweight baby wale corduroy ( a designer deadstock from LA Finch Fabrics) for my version. LN Ambassador Chloe used a midweight corduroy for her version. A lot of corduroy I’m finding in the online shops are “stretch corduroy”. This may work for the Opus, but I think I would prefer a regular cotton corduroy for this project. You can find some at the following shops.
Cali Fabrics~ has a nice selection of corduroy (at great prices), from 21 wale to 8 wale in a variety of colors.
Style Maker Fabrics~ has a large selection of corduroy. Their Japanese Printed Corduroys are to die for! They are totally worth the price! Last week I sewed up the LN Aria in one and I’m in love with it!
Yard Blox~ I have NOT ordered from this company (yet)~ but I am very interested in their “Elephant” Corduroy that has a very wide wale. I’ll keep you posted if I wind up ordering from them
LINENS
A midweight linen would work really well for the Opus Vest. I’m considering a lightweight linen version for Spring for a more relaxed look. I do buy most of my linen in NYC from GrayLines Linen. They also sell online. I also purchase linen from Fabrics-Store.com. These 2 shops are my favorites for solid 100% linen.
Robert Kaufman Brussels Washer Linen is a nice rayon/linen blend with a some drape~ I’m thinking this would be perfect for a spring-time Opus. You can find it at several reputable online shops such as:
Cali Fabrics~ has a nice selection of linens, both solids and stripes/plaids. Many of these are designer headstocks.
Tricot Knit Interfacing
The product I have always used is Pellon Easy Knit Tricot EK130. Just before Joann Fabrics went into liquidation, I bought 2 entire bolts for 70% off. I still have an entire bolt left. Where I will buy it in the future, I haven’t decided. Upon “googling” it I see that many online retailers sell it~ including Amazon.
Cali Fabrics is one of my go-to online shops and they carry it HERE.
Wawak~ is an excellent source for sewing and tailoring needs. They have been around since 1907. I now order all my Gutermann Thread from them. I have not purchased their Tricot Interfacing yet~ but I know that several Love Notions Ambassadors use this tricot. The prices are good and shipping is fast!
They also sell rolls of 1″ wide Tricot interfacing, seen HERE.
Pressing Tools
You can find excellent pressing tools at Wawak such as a Pressing Ham/Tailor’s Hams, Sleeve Rolls and Sleeve Boards. Pressing is NOT something to skip! Pressing really can make a big difference in how your finished garment looks! Consider investing in one or all of these pressing tools if you don’t own them. (They also make great items to add to your Holiday Wish List!)
Last year I put this sleeve board on my Holiday Wish List~ and yippee my husband bought it for me. It was 200X better than the vintage one I was using that was so wobbly. I can vouch 100% for this product.
If you don’t already own the Coda Coat pattern~ now is the perfect day to grab it.
Two Reasons:
1. It’s the $6 Feature Friday Pattern from Love Notions
Use code 10MACSEWS for additional 10% off
2. This is perfect time of year to sew up a quilted coat. (And the perfect time to wear it!)
I tested the Coda Coat back in 2023~ and you can tell from the above photo taken yesterday I still LOVE this coat!!!! I find myself ALWAYS wanting to wear my pink quilted version (yes it’s made from a quilt from Home Goods). It really is the perfect coat to just quickly throw on on your way out the door. However, I don’t always want to wear pink. I’ve been on the hunt for a “block” type print in more neutral colors for a new version.
That is one of the great things about this pattern. You can create totally different looks depending on what fabric you choose. Your Coda could be Classic, Preppy, Boho, Eclectic or “Coastal Grandma” like mine all depending on what fabric you choose!
Head to the Fabric Resources at the bottom for more fabric talk!
Last week I was rearranging my closet by moving my summer clothes to the back corners and pulling my warmer clothes front and center. As I did this I forced myself NOT to reach for my favorite makes. I wore things I probably haven’t worn in a few years! At the end of the day I determined if I was going to keep it or donate it. (PS~ there were a few things I only wore for a few hours and then remembered why I never wore them anymore~ to the donate pile they went! Sometimes this was because I since altered the pattern to fit me better or I just didn’t like the fabric or how it felt on)

LN Rockford Raglan in a baby French Terry underneath*
LN Aria Button-down in Robert Kaufman Mammoth Flannel (RCF)
LN Sloane in a waffle knit(sized down 1 size for layering)
* The Rockford Raglan is my favorite shirt to wear underneath during the cooler months. With the raglan sleeve, I feel there isn’t the bulkiness in the under arm area or at the shoulder area when wearing a shirt on top of it. Lightweight rib knits are perfect as baselayer. I bought most of mine from Mily Mae Fabrics a few years ago.(and I’m still wearing them!)
This week I’m sewing up the LN Aria Button-downs from my Fall Sewing Plans. I’ve finished the plaid sweatshirt fleece version and it’s LOVE. I wore it bike riding the very next day and it was PERFECT! I also sewed up a lightweight corduroy version.
Below is that shirt that I saw in Macy’s a few weeks ago. I would have gladly paid the sale price for it~ but in order for it to button at the bust, the shoulders and neckline would have been huge! Most RTW button downs are also cut to straight for me along with having sleeves that are way too long. I LOVE my version and it so sooo cuddly made up in the sweatshirt fleece from Raspberry Creek fabrics.
The vest pattern I was testing for Love Notions has been put on hold until the Spring~ which I think it really is more suited to. However~ be on the lookout next week for a different vest pattern to release from LN ~ the OPUS. I’m trying to get one sewn up this weekend, get photos taken and let you know all about next week! Check out Tessa’s post on the Love Notions Facebook page for a sneak peek of the Opus!
My Fall Sewing Plans~
I was able to get 2 more items from my Fall sewing plans completed, Aria button-downs complete with buttonholes and buttons! But, sadly I haven’t been able to avoid adding anything else to my list. (Please tell me I’m not the only one who adds things to their sewing lists faster than they sew!)

I’m not a quilter, and I really haven’t wanted to quilt fabric for my Coda Coats. So if you’re like me~ you may want some resources for quilted fabrics. There isn’t much available that I’ve been able to find.
My pink and white version is made from a quilt I purchased at Home Goods. I did go looking there again, but they had mostly comforters that were much too thick. Here are my suggestions:
Go to Thrift shops and search for actual handmade quilts.
Go to Home Goods, Marshalls, Home Sense , TJ Maxx and similar type stores
Visit Brick and Mortar AND online Quilt shops.
Sometimes these are a more expensive option
Often most prints are Holiday and Children’s prints
Etsy~ I’ve seen some really pretty options there. Be sure to read through all the reviews for that seller before purchasing. Here are a few shops I found:
Little Legs Fabrics (UK company)~ has some beautiful ones including quilted double gauze, however shipping costs are high to the US
I See Fabric Shop~ has beautiful block prints (but only 2 colors remaining) that are PERFECT for the Coda!
Cotton Fabric Hub~ Now this shop has exactly what I’m looking for, however they have only been on Etsy for 2 months with no reviews yet. Fabric ships from India and it’s expensive. ($85 + shipping) How pretty are these!
My solution? I’m going to shop for block printed cotton quilts on Amazon. I think this will be the best choice for me.
Style Maker Fabrics has many “Puff” quilted solid color fabrics available in several colors if you’re looking for a more classic quilted coat. You can find them HERE. There is also a Black and Coral Floral printed quilted fabrics found HERE.
Sweater Knits for the Sloane or Arlington
I would look for fabrics such as: Hacci sweater knits, waffle knits, baby French Terry, rib knits
Style Maker Fabrics also carries a “Cozy Flannel” which is very similar to Mammoth Flannel. I have sewn this flannel up as well and it just gets softer and softer with each wash. They have many plaids AND prints available. You can find them HERE.
Bonus Photos~
Here are a few photos from our bike ride on the Delaware & Raritan Trail (the D & R) that travels along the Delaware River(which separates NJ from PA). We rode from Bull’s Island State Park up the Frenchtown(one of my favorite places). We had lunch at one of our favorite spots , Chez Daniel.
Quiche Lorraine for lunch (naturally) and Spooky Soup~ Butternut Squash Soup with Red sweet potato. It was a beautiful day AND I hit 700 miles on my bike!
The Arlington Sweater is the $6 Feature Friday pattern today, 10/17/25. It is the perfect transitional pattern for this time of year! Be sure to use my code 10MACSEWS for an additional 10% off.
Let me tell you, the Arlington Sweater is such an awesome pattern! It is such a classic with enough options that can take it from a basic turtleneck to something extra special! The combinations are truly endless! At $6 this pattern really is a bang for your buck! (I also love using the Arlington puff sleeve on other patterns!)
Last week I went on a Girl’s Getaway with four of my retired teacher friends. We figured out between us we had taught 178 years!! I wore all me-made but didn’t get many photos of my outfits~ we were just too busy have fun! (Plus I wasn’t going to pack my tripod and I wasn’t going to keep asking my girlfriends to take pics like I ask my husband.)

For details on how I sew my Oakley vest (I do not have the zipper extend into the collar because I don’t like the way it rubs on my neck) visit this blog post.
I spent a lot of time this week putting together the Fabric Resource Guide for the Octave Coat, so I didn’t get as much sewing as I typically would get done.
My first sewing obligation this week was to sew up my Fit pattern test for Love Notions. A Fit test is the first round of testing a pattern where there are testers in all the sizes. We evaluate the fit of the pattern and recommend changes we think should be made. We share photos with the entire testing team along with Tami. Once Tami has made any changes she thinks are necessary, we will sew up another version. This pattern is going to be a super quick make and really cute. I can’t wait to show you!
Edited to add: Tami has made the first set of changes to the vest pattern and I’m working on my next version.

Additional Fabric Resources
Style Maker Fabrics Fall Fabric Haul
There are my Fall Fabrics I just got from Style Maker Fabrics. I loved watching the video Michelle had on YouTube to follow along and “see” all the new Fall fabrics. I love how I am able to see how each of the fabrics drape. This will be done again in March for the new Spring/Summer Fabrics. Here is what I chose along with my “plans” for each.
Plush Cable Quilted Double Knit in Berry~ Either a LN Constellation or a LN Clef Coat
Autumn Leaves French Terry(European fabric)~ Either a LN Constellation or a TB Marlo Sweater
Jacquard Shirting in Indigo~ LN Aria or LN Band Camp button down
Jacquard Shirting in Natural~ NEW LN vest pattern I’m testing. This is for my final version!
The second photos of the Jacquard Shirting shows how it looks after being prewashed. It is almost like a double gauze, but a bit more substantial.
Raspberry Creek Fabrics Oatmeal French Terry
This highly coveted Oatmeal French Terry is milled just once a year especially for Raspberry Creek Fabrics. This infamous French Terry is the softest and squishiest fabric you will ever wear!!! It is my absolute favorite fabric to make the hooded LN Terra Tunic in.
Once it is gone~ it’s gone for another year! Typically there will be a preorder for this fabric so that they can gauge how much fabric to have milled. We haven’t heard anything yet for this year, but I will keep you updated as I get the details. If you’d like to see more “Oatmeal” makes, visit the Raspberry Creek Fabrics Facebook group and type “Oatmeal French Terry” in the search.
BREAKING NEWS!!!!
Diana (from Raspberry Creek Fabrics) just announced on Wednesday that a preorder is now open for Oatmeal French Terry!!! See what she said below:
Oatmeal French Terry PRE-ORDER!
You asked and we answered. Oatmeal french terry is now on pre-order in the shop!
What is so special about oatmeal french terry? It is the coziest, softest, most squishy french terry out there. There is something about the heathered yarn that gives the french terry a bit more body and squish. You don’t want to miss it!
For now, we have the solid oatmeal french terry.
If you recall, when the shop ownership transitioned we mentioned that RCF now has the ability to print using white ink. We are working on test printing, figuring out which print method gets the best results on the oatmeal.
So, snag your solid for now and we’ll see what the future holds. If you have a print you’d like to see on oatmeal french terry, comment below and we’ll see what we can make happen.
This pre-order is actually a pretty quick turn around, hoping to start shipping towards the end of the month or early November. But that also means we have limited yardage this go round. So, get your order in ASAP if you want to snag yardage from this round.
I have a few trusted online fabric shops that have some quilted knits available. I LOVE my Oakley vests in a quilted knit!
Surge Fabrics. Both of my quilted knits came from Surge Fabrics. They still have both designs available~ the Interwoven Square and the Cable Knit. My Burgundy Interwoven is not available, however they have 8 other colors. My Ivory Cable Knit is still available along with black and gray. You can find them all HERE.
I made a LN Lincoln Top with this one
Raspberry Creek Fabrics has a Diamond Quilted Knit($13.50 per yard) and a Striped Quilted Knit($14.94 per yard), both available in three colors. You can find them HERE.
Style Makers Fabrics has 4 options to choose from in a variety of colors. You can find them HERE.
Plush Cable Quilted Double Knit~ this has a bit more structure than the ones listed above. I just received this in the Berry. There are 7 colors available at $22.99 per yard. Pictured above in my Fabric Haul.
Deco Geometric Double Knit~ Available in 3 Fall Neutrals for $19.99 per yard
Cable Stripe Knit~ available in 3 colors for $24.99 per yard
Diamond Double Knit~ available in Raspberry for $22.99 per yard ( I purchased some of this in Sage and Plum previously and have plans for 2 new Oakley vests.)
Bonus Photos~ Girl’s Trip to Rehoboth Beach, DE
I had the best time with 4 of my retired teacher friends! We ate some great meals, we shopped and shopped and shopped. We even had a Show-n-Tell evening showing each other all our purchases. October was a perfect month to shop~ since a $10 donation to Breast Cancer Research provided us with a coupon for 25% off one item in a lot of the stores! Rehoboth Beach is known for its beach of course along with the boardwalk~ but the tax free shopping is also a big draw! There are actually 3 outlet centers all within a mile or two of each other!
We were able to get over to the boardwalk to see the Harvest Moon over the Atlantic Ocean one evening.
These were all my purchases~ I did buy some things for my husband too!

This Week’s Sewing News (What I’m Sewing & Thinking About Sewing This Week)
I had big sewing plans this week. While on vacation I was making all kind of lists in my head. Yes, I’m one of those that think about what I want to sew when I’m away from my sewing room. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a chance to get anything really sew up. I didn’t lose my sewjo~ I’ve just been struggling with some minor migraines this week. Instead I’ve been tidying up my sewing room
I’m on a girl’s trip to Rehoboth Beach, DE this week which limited my sewing time as well. A few of my retired teacher friends and I are headed down for some shopping, eating out and lots of laughs! One of the things I miss the most about teaching is my daily lunches~ they were always the best 22 minutes ever!!! Rehoboth Beach is well known on the East Coast for tons of outlet stores. I plan on buying a few basics and looking for lots of inspiration. (DE is tax free btw!). I’m hoping to find a quilt I can use to make a new LN Coda Coat. I love the pink version I made, but I’m hoping to find a quilt with a smaller more neutral print. Here is the one I made during the Coda release.
I will continue working on my pattern test for Love Notions. I’m really excited for this one~ I think you’re gonna like it too!!!
My custom printed sweatshirt fleece from Raspberry Creek Fabrics got here. I have plans to make a LN Aria button-down with one of them. Below is a picture of them along with the Inspiration button-down I saw in my local Macy’s. Hanging on the same rack where fleece vests in pink and cream. I have a pink fleece LN Oakley vest I plan to wear along with this. Read more about this fabric below in the Fabric Resources section.
My Fall Sewing Plans
I’m trying NOT to add anything to this Fall Sewing List that I worked on a few weeks back. But as sewists who are we kidding?!?!? I’ve been seeing so many quilted jackets the past few week that I really want to make another Coda Coat so I added one to my list!

Fabric Resources
Double Knit Rib Fabric or “Urban Rib”
This is a great fabric for cardigans. I have two and I wear them constantly. Some shops call it Urban Rib or Urban Wave Rib but it technically is a double knit jacquard rib knit. If you do a Google search you will find many shops carry it. Here are the shops I have purchased it from in the past.
Raspberry Creek Fabrics currently has several colors on clearance for just$2.99- $3.99 per half yard. You can find them here.
Mily Mae fabrics as a few “Urban Wave” rib fabrics in the shop right now. They most likely will be stocking new colors soon. You can find them HERE.
Boho Fabrics also has some “Urban Rib” on sale. See them HERE.
Raspberry Creek Fabrics Sweatshirt Fleece
Raspberry Creek Sweatshirt Fleece is warm and cozy yet not has heavy or bulky as some others. It has a slight weathered appearance which just adds to its appeal. It does have limited stretch so is isn’t suitable for all knit patterns. It’s 240gsm and 72% Poly/25% Rayon/3% Spandex.
It does sewn up nicely into the LN Constellation and LN Compose Robe. I think it’s gonna make the perfect “Shacket” with the LN Aria button-down!
RCF has some sweatshirt fleece prints that you can order retail at $12.98 per yard. You can see them all HERE. However, I wanted to try and replicate the button-down I saw in Macy’s. Therefore, I searched through all the custom designs (there are 100,000 probably) to find a pink plaid I liked the most. I was able to narrow the search down by using the search bar and typing in “pink plaids”. From there I saved all the ones I like to my “Wish List”. Then I went through my wish list and picked my favorites. One thing to remember is that you can adjust the scale of any print/plaid to your liking. Custom printed sweatshirt fleece is $19.98 per yard. TIP: I always keep a ton of prints (217 to be exact) in my wish list. RCF has sales on custom printing quite often. Whenever there is one I will go to my wish list and pick something to have printed. Below is a look at my “Wish List”.
I’m SO excited about this week’s Feature Friday pattern!!! This is the first time the Pianoforte jumper has ever been featured. I was lucky to test this pattern last year and now I’m going to convince you that you really NEED to make one too! You can grab the pattern today only, 10/3/2025 for just $6. Be sure to use my code 10MACSEWS for an additional 10% off.
I never thought I’d be 63 and wearing a jumper~ and loving it!! This is such a fun sew and I absolutely LOVE the pockets and their construction. It really was so much fun to sew!
I’m so excited about the Band Camp Shirt’s very first Feature Friday! Today only, 9/26/25 you can buy the Ladies Band Camp Shirt AND the Men’s Band Camp Shirt for just $6 each. Remember using my code 10MARYMAC will get you an extra 10% off.
I know I say this quite often but, you really NEED this pattern! It was a very satisfying sew, and much simpler to make than a traditional collared shirt due to its attached facing construction. So if you’ve been afraid to sew up a collared shirt, this is a pattern for YOU!
This has to be one of the MOST versatile top pattern offered by Love Notions. It works perfectly for ALL the seasons! I love my sleeveless versions(I need more next summer), wear my short sleeved versions all the time and adore my long sleeved versions as well! This shirt really works year round!
Please be sure to click over to my blog post all about the Band Camp Shirts~ there is a ton of information there. I’ve updated it to include new photos AND talk a bit about how different fabrics create totally different looking shirts. All my sizing details are there as well as some sewing tips too.
The Feature Friday pattern today, 9/19/25 is the Largo Cargos. You can grab the pattern today for just $6. You can use my code 10MARYMAC for and additional 10% off. If you decide you want to order the printed pattern, it ships for free today only!
The Largo Cargos are THE perfect of pants to sew up for Fall! I have yet to sew up a pair, however since I’ve sewn the Meadowlark Hiking pants and am happy with how they fit me~ I think I’m ready to sew up a pair of these! Be sure to check the Love Notions Facebook group to see all the awesome Largos that have sewn up!
When I tested this pattern back in 2023, I gave it the “Sew Mary Mac” stamp of approval! I stick by that still!. The Lenox Top and Dress pattern is the $6 Feature Friday pattern today, 9/12/25. You use my code 10MARYMAC for an additional 10% off.
You may notice that the neckline on my bright pink Lenox if a tad higher than how it looks on others. I have raised the neckline on this version, to make it more suitable for me. For complete details on how I did this~ visit this blog post. On this post you will also see other examples of the Lenox top that I made during testing.
