Today’s $5 Pattern~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Aria Button Down

This is by far my most sewn and worn Love Notions pattern! (Yes, I actually have made more Arias than Constellation Pullovers!). You can see just a few of my Aria Collection below. A classic button down is always a staple in my coastal preppy wardrobe. Worn open over tank or tee is such a classic coastal thing to do!

Buy this pattern HERE.

I’ve written a few blog posts about the Aria Button Down. You can read them at the links below.

Detailed Blog post including sizing, alterations and sewing tips for sewing the Aria. Also include sewing with linen tips.

What I Wore This Week~

This week I continues my Me Made May Pledge~ I pulled things from my closet that I haven’t worn in years, or things I made last year that are too large. My goal has been to determine what I will alter, what now fits again and what I will donate. I’m so happy that some of my older Aria Button Downs fit more comfortably now! My somewhat large collection of Timbre Tops are taking up most of my altering pile right now though 😦

  • LN Boyfriend Cardigan ~ in a ribbed double knit from Joann Fabrics many many years ago!
    • LN La Bella Donna ~ in bamboo cotton knit custom printed at Raspberry Creek Fabrics
  • LN Aria Button Down ~ in a denim chambray with pineapple design
  • LN Presto Tunic~ in Eddie Bauer Flannel from Joann’s a few years ago
  • LN Constellation Pullover~ in custom printed Sweatshirt Fleece from Raspberry Creek Fabrics
  • LN Timbre Top ~ in rayon challis from RCF (still available)
    • This Timbre along with a few others will get altered. I just simply need to take out the hem at the side seams on the body and sleeve and take in the side seams an inch on each side. More to add to my altering pile!!
  • LN Aria Button Down~ in a Linen/rayon chambray
    • LN La Bella Donna/Classic Tee mash in a rib knit

What I’m Sewing This Week~

This week I’ve been busy altering some older Me Mades that needed to be taken in a bit. I’m trying to work through my alteration pile before beginning new projects~ even though I REALLY want to get started on sewing something new!

The only new make I’ve made this week is another Pattern Emporium About Town Popover Top is a cotton rayon chambray from the NYC garment district. I’ll get pictures of that soon to share.

My Spring Sewing Plans~

My Spring Sewing Plans have been set aside a bit~ mostly because of Me Made May. What are my goals this year for Me Made May? In past years I have vowed to try to wear me made garments every day, photograph them and post them online. However, since I really do wear me made almost every day and since I post what I wore each week in my “Weekly Stitch” I decided to do something a bit different.

This year I am pulling things from my closet that I haven’t worn much or at all the last 2 years. (Mostly because they were too tight as I had gained some weight). So, I am trying things on and wearing them~ even if they are too big (note the green double gauze Timbre) and deciding if I want to keep it and alter it or to donate it. This is my goal for May~ to try on everything in my closet that I haven’t been wearing. Then I need to get to altering!!

This week I’ve discovered~

  • I need to alter several of my Timbre Tops~ they just need to be taken in on the side seams which will be easy.
  • LN Presto Tunic~ when I made this tunic I left out the back darts so I had extra room. I’m going to add those dart in now.
  • For my Aria button downs that are too large~ I’m planning on taking out the hem at the side seam and taking out the grading that I did for my larger hips along the side seams. Although when I make new ones I will make a smaller size~ these larger ones are still perfect for layering.

Another thing I’ve been doing with some of my Rhapsody rayon tops that are too large is to wash them in warm water and placing them in the dryer. I typically hang my rayon tops to dry. This has actually worked so far!!! They do wind up shrinking up in length a tad too~ but I’ve found that I need the length taken off these tops as well!

Thanks for reading “The Weekly Stitch”! I’m so happy you took the time to “visit” my sewing room!
