What I Wore Last Week~

Last week I was on vacation on Block Island. This is my absolute favorite place to be in September. The “Block”, as we call it, is an island off the coast of Rhode Island. It is truly such a beautiful laid back place.

Disclaimer: Block Island is a very casual place. Most of these photos were taken after riding bikes, kayaking, walking the beach or on the ferry. This was a casual and very active vacation which basically meant lots of messy hair days!

What I’m Sewing This Week~

I’m not sure how much sewing I’m going to finish up this week. There is always so much to catch up on when you’ve been gone for a week. It was also my birthday this week and I had visits from my daughters~ so no sewing those days! I am working on a pattern test for Love Notions this week, but no sneak peeks yet!

I do hope to get a few items cut out and perhaps get to sew a bit on them this weekend. I probably won’t get much sewn next week either, as I have a girls getaway with some of my retired teacher girlfriends.

My Fall Sewing Plans~

I haven’t gotten much sewn between getaways and family visits~ but I’ve been pretty good about sticking to this list and not adding anything new to it!! (Sometimes THAT is a big win~ I tend to add to my to-sew list faster than I sew sometimes!)

  • LN Aria Button downs
    • Corduroy ~Woodland print that I purchased last fall from Style Maker Fabrics
    • Sweatshirt fleece, pink plaid that I ordered from RCF
    • Jacket hack in Navy linen~ just received from Mood Fabrics

    • Perhaps a Rayon challis version? Found perfect rayon challis in my deep stash (10 yrs old?)
    • Bonus Sew~ Green Double Gauze from last big Joann Fabrics haul

Additional Resources

Quilted Oakley Vest~ this blog post explains the process I followed to quilt linen for my Oakley.

A Made for Mermaid Jordan dress makes a perfect dress to wear kayaking when shortened to tunic length! I made 3/4 length sleeves for sun protection when out on the water. The only change I made was to tighten the sleeve so that water doesn’t run from the paddle down inside my sleeve. You can read more about them HERE and HERE.

Lined LN Clef Coat~ this blog post explains the process of lining my Clef coat. To see my complete collection of Clef Coats, visit this blog post.

LN Compose “Cardigan”~. check out this blog post to see how I used the Compose Robe pattern to make a cardigan.

LN Aria “Jacket“~Visit this blog post to see the modifications I made to create my Aria “jacket”.

Bonus Photos~ My “Happy Place” Block Island, Rhode Island

If you love crisp ocean breezes, peaceful landscapes, and time spent in nature, Block Island is the perfect fall escape. This New England gem is just far enough off the beaten path to feel like a true escape, yet still convenient to reach (Only way to get there is by Ferry, plane or helicopter). The quieter months of Fall is the best time to enjoy the island’s charm at a relaxed pace. (Yes, it’s pretty crazy in the summer!),

If you want more information about Block Island, visit this website.

The last image shows exactly where Block Island is. Surprising many on the East Coast don’t know where it is. When you watch the weather reports on the news, you can always see the little “duck” shaped island on the maps. It is part of Rhode Island, just south of the mainland. To the southwest is Montauk, Long Island, NY. To the northwest is Connecticut. To the East is is Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.
