My Favorite Love Notions Makes Of 2024

…Love Notions New Year’s Sale is On!

Happy New Year! What better way to kick off the new year than with a sale of our favorite patterns?!? Now is a great time to treat yourself to those LN patterns that you’ve wanted for awhile. Just in case you need a little help~ I’m here to help!

Which Patterns Should You Grab?

Need help deciding which patterns to grab during this sale? First, I recommend buying the recent new releases that you didn’t buy during the release sale. Patterns typically don’t become a $5 pattern until one year after they have been released. Patterns such as the Ladies and Mens Band Camp Shirts, Timbre Top and Dress, Chorus Top and Dress are good ones to buy. These patterns may have released during the Spring and Summer months, however they can work perfectly for Fall and Winter too! You can also get a head start of your Spring and Summer sewing by grabbing the Clearwater Summer Essentials pattern!

This is also a great time to pick up any of the recent $5 Feature Friday patterns that you may have missed. Patterns are only featured for $5 once a year, so if you missed one~ now is the time to grab it!

Sew Mary Mac’s Favorite Makes Of 2024!

For the sale this January I decided to focus off my favorite me-mades of 2024. Some of these may not be weather appropriate right now (at least in the NorthEast), but wanted to look back on my year of sewing and share the me~mades that I enjoyed sewing the most and enjoy wearing the most. The fabric/pattern combo may also play a big part in why they have become favorites!

In no particular order……..

1. Patchwork Madras Plaid Clef Coat and My Brand New Corduroy Clef Coat (yes I finished it on 12/28/24!)

Why?

  • This fabric/pattern combo was my favorite of the year!
  • I love anything preppy and what is more preppy than a patchwork Madras plaid!
  • The Loop Terry lining is so soft and comfy. It’s warm when needed, but never hot.
  • It’s just so much fun to wear!
  • I think this Clef Coat could be used to describe my style perfectly!

2. Timbre Linen Dress

Why?

  • Another ” perfect fabric for the pattern” combo
  • I love 100% linen, I love sewing it and I love wearing it!
  • I wore this all summer long and even took it on a few vacations!
  • It was perfect for walking around Boston on a hot and humid day.
  • I was able to wear it with both sandals and my little white sneakers.
  • Such a quick and easy sew~ it’s actually addicting to make.
  • I’m looking forward to a few more dress versions for this Spring and Summer!

3. Band Camp Skirt and Caprice Skirt~ Faux Dress

Why?

  • This outfit really filled a hole in my wardrobe.
  • I’m retired and don’t have much need for dresses in the Fall/Winter~ this is perfect!
  • I love having a “dress” and separates that I can mix and match.
  • I love wearing the Band Camp shirt with jeans too!
  • The fabric!!! This is a rayon stretch poplinl. It is heavier than a rayon challis which makes it a breeze to sew and is perfect for Fall.
  • I love the way this outfit feels when I wear it. The fabric, the fit~ just everything.
  • I’m proud of this make~ which makes me happy. Sewing should make us happy!

You can read more about this outfit here.

I also loved the Caprice skirt below. I wore this so often all summer, then continued to wear it in the Fall with a sweater and boots. (Oops, no photo of that outfit!) Sometimes you just pick the perfect fabric to use for a pattern~ this is one of those cases. This is a vintage embellished cotton gingham that I’ve had it my stash for 30 YEARS!

4. Chorus Maxi Dress

Why?

  • Talk about secret pajamas!
  • This dress was THE PERFECT dress to pack for vacations! Made in ITY fabric, it never wrinkled and I was able to pack lighter and wear this out to dinner a few times. There will definitely be another one being made this Spring. And yes, I need a winter version of this dress!
  • I found myself wearing this dress on hot days even just around the house. It is so comfortable!

5. Clearwater Swim Dress

Why?

  • I feel amazing in this make~ that’s what happens when something fits you well!
  • I was so proud of this make~ I’ve never sewn any type of swimwear before!
  • I love how this swim dress fits me~ and I don’t have to worry about my little great niece and nephew jumping all over me in the pool!

You can read all the details on my Clearwater Swim Dress on this blog post. I have some great tips on getting a great fit.

6. Oakley Quilted Vest

Why?

  • I quilted my own fabric for this project. (note: I am NOT a quilter!)
  • I had the lining custom printed with one of my most favorite fabric designs.
  • The colors just scream me! I love the pop of green I chose for the zipper
  • This fits my Casual Coastal Preppy style to a T!
  • Wearing this makes me happy!

Want more info on the Oakley Vest? I’ve written a few blog posts about how I’ve gotten a good fit, lined my pockets and how I enclosed the top of the zipper in the collar.  You can find that information HERE.
