Introducing The New Interlude Jacket!!

………….A New Pattern Release From Love Notions

It’s an exciting day at Love Notions today!!! The NEW Interlude Jacket pattern is finally here! I was so lucky to be able to test this one and I think you’re gonna love it! The Interlude Jacket is on sale for just $9.50 now through next Monday, May 4, 2026. If you use my code 10MARYMAC you can get an additional 10% off. You can grab the pattern HERE.

The Interlude is the perfect for in-between seasons, or when the evenings are a tad chilly. It has some details you don’t always find in a “denim jacket”. Plus the possibilities are endless between the two body styles and fabric choices. Go totally classic and sew up a denim version, or choose a fun colored twill like me! I’m on the hunt for a mid weight linen cheetah print for a long version myself 🙂

I found the Interlude to be a very enjoyable sew! It’s not a quick sew, but is it a very satisfying one! I’m already on the hunt for a printed linen for a full length version!

The Details~

The Interlude truly is the perfect blend of classic and modern. Classic details you expect in a denim jacket with some versatility.

  • Designed for woven fabrics
  • 2 Body Styles: Cropped and Full length
  • Raglan Sleeve~ 2 part seam with shoulder dart
  • Breast Pockets
  • Welt Pockets (optional)
  • Princess Seams
  • Waist Casing (Full length only) to create waist definition
  • Full Bust Option
  • Skill Level: Intermediate

Sizing and Fit~

The Interlude Jacket is available in sizes XS-5X.  A Full Bust pattern piece is included (like all new and updated LN patterns). The Interlude is meant to have a relaxed fit. Choose your jacket size based upon your high bust measurement. If in-between sizes choose the smaller size.

If your full bust is more than 4″ larger than your high bust, use the included Full Bust Front pattern piece. NOTE: unlike many other LN patterns, the Full Bust pattern piece does NOT add an additional 2″ to the waist and hip finished measurements. If you relied on that extra room, you will need to grade accordingly. (See my alterations below.)

The Cropped length is meant to hit 2″ below the natural waist. The Full Length version is designed to hit below the full hip.

As all other Love Notions patterns, the Interlude is designed for a 5’5″ individual. The Cropped length is meant to hit 2″ below the natural waist. The Full Length version is designed to hit below the full hip. You can easily shorten or lengthen the pattern by using the lengthen/shorten lines. Refer to the tutorial for further help doing so.

Note: Due to the princess seams and raglan sleeve design of the Interlude I HIGHLY recommend making a muslin.

My Sizing Alterations and Modifications~

For my Pink Interlude, I made an XL with the Full Bust Option and graded out to the 2X below the waist line area. I have a very rounded high hip so I wanted to make sure I had enough room there.

When grading out to the 2X below the waist area, I only graded out at the side seams. Therefore, I only graded the side front and the side back pattern pieces. Grading out on the center back and center front pieces may affect your princess seams. I cut my waistband a 2X, but this meant that it was a tad bigger than I needed which was fine.

Because I am full busted and only 5 feet tall, I did not include the welt pockets on my cropped version. I knew I would never use them, but I will include them on my full length version. I did NOT shorten my Interlude even though I am only 5 feet tall because I am not short-waisted.

Fabrics and Notions~

The Interlude is designed for medium or heavy weight apparel fabrics. Fabrics such as denim, twill and linen would all be suitable.

If making the Full Length version you may also want to consider fabrics that are a tad lighter weight as well. Be sure to look at all the testers versions. One tester made a beautiful version from a seersucker and it’s so lovely!!!

Notions~

  • Interfacing
  • Double Fold Bias Tape
  • 8-10 Buttons, 1/2″ or larger. (I highly suggest larger than 1/2″)

My Fabric~

I used a medium weight stretch denim like twill fabric from KiKi Textiles. You do NOT need a stretch denim or twill for this pattern. I will be honest, I struggled a bit with the princess seams and the stretch of the fabric. I did need to take extra care when pressing and always needed to use a pressing cloth along with my pressing ham. (Another note~ because of the fabric content a too hot iron could damage this fabric. Again, use a pressing cloth!)

I honestly just really really wanted a pink jacket since I have several denim jackets already. This fabric is also available in several other colors. Here are the details from Kiki Textiles~

“This denim look stretch twill is a high-quality, medium-weight fabric designed to replicate the appearance of classic denim while offering improved comfort and flexibility. The weave is dense and durable, giving it a solid, substantial feel without being thick, stiff, or bulky. It is fully opaque and not see-through, making it suitable for everyday wear and structured garments.”

  • Width: 58”
  • Weight: 250 GSM
  • Content: 74% Rayon, 22% Nylon, 4% Spandex

Sew Mary Mac’s Tips For Sewing The Interlude Jacket

  • Make a Muslin!!!!!! I can’t stress this enough!
  • When making your muslin, try on your jacket and evaluate the fit of the princess seams. You may need to adjust the curve a tad~ especially if you are using the full bust front pieces.
  • If sewing with linen especially, but sure to stay stitch the neckline edges of the fronts, back and top of sleeves. (These pieces may stretch out easily and make attaching the collar difficult)
  • When stitching the front and back sleeve together, overlock the edges above the extension before sewing them together.
  • For lighter weight fabrics I would interface both collar pieces. My test version was a medium weight linen and I would have preferred it to be double interfaced.
  • Skip the step for the breast pockets and put them on later. It’s best to see exactly where they will wind up on your body. This is especially true for us bustier ladies!
  • Remember that breast pocket placement is just a guide! However, the welt pockets should be placed per the pattern directions
  • Take your time and enjoy the sew!
