This time of year we are all so excited to see the new Spring releases, we often overlook the great Club Basics Collection. You know, the stripes, ginghams and dots that coordinate so nicely with them. Well these coordinates are great when used on their own too! Keep reading to find out what I created with some of the beautiful French terry and Double Brushed Poly ginghams!
If your Facebook and Instagram feeds are anything like mine, you’ve been flooded with “those” adorable gingham sweatshirts and tops! I admit they are sweet and adorable- but they come at a pretty price! As sewists, we know we can make them ourselves!
DJ Short sleeved Lounge top – $65
When I first saw these sweatshirts, I knew immediately I could count on RCF to help me recreate one! To create my sweatshirt I used the Salmon Buffalo Check French terry and the Salmon cotton jersey. I was able to recreate this popular sweatshirt for about $22! RCF French Terry is one of my most favorite fabrics to sew with! The more you wear and wash it, the softer it gets!
I used the Grainline Linden pattern, but you could use any Raglan sweatshirt pattern such as the Love Notions Rockford or the Hey June Lane.

The newest version I’ve seen popping up on my Instagram has this adorable short puffed sleeve! I knew immediately I wanted this! This time I used the Teal Double Brushed Poly with the Teal Cotton Jersey.
For this version I used the Made for Mermaids Pepper top pattern as my starting point. I raised the neckline a tad and then adjusted the gathers on the sleeve cuff to mimic the sleeve of the DJ version.
DJ version- $65
RCF version- about $21
If gingham isn’t your thing- you can always copy this DJ striped sweatshirt! RCF has the biggest selection of striped French terry! The Love Notions Sloane would make recreating these striped versions easy!
