…….Welcome to My Sewing Room

Feature Friday Pattern From Love Notions

The $6 Feature Friday pattern from Love Notions today,  7/25/2025 is the Cadence. This breezy shift style dress deserves a place in everyone’s closet! Forget what you used to think~ you don’t need to be tall and thin to wear a shift dress!! The Cadence pattern is filled with options too!
Remember to use my code 10MARYMAC for an extra 10% off.  You can grab the pattern HERE. PS: Be sure to read to the end to see some photos from last week’s bike ride!

The Details

The Cadence is a simple shift style dress designed for wovens. Darts and a center back seam help to give the dress some simple shaping. With so many options available you can mix and match for many different combinations! Make it dressy, make it casual~ the choice is yours!

Cadence is THE perfect simple, clean dress for Spring and Summer. It’s a breeze to sew, making it a perfect pattern for beginners!

  • 3 lengths: shirt, knee and maxi
  • 5 sleeve options: tank, short, 3/4, flare and bishop
  • Notched neckline option (which I think is sooo cute!)
  • Side Slits
  • Optional drawstring/elastic casing waist
  • Skill Level: Beginner

I wrote a blog post all about how I when I made my first Cadence top and dress to fit my pear shape I discovered something! You can read that blog post HERE. I discuss how I always felt the need to wear things longer to cover my “problem” areas.  The Cadence helped me to change my mindset! I’m going to STOP trying to cover up all my parts I’m unhappy with. Covering them up, doesn’t always make me look/feel better.

In this blog post you can also see photos of me in my Cadence top and dress~ along with my black hair. For those of you who are newer followers, I’ve spent the last 3 years letting my “silver” grow in! This blog post also includes sewing tips for the Cadence.

What I Wore Last Week

I’ve been trying to walk every morning so I have been getting a lot of wear out of my Tinley skorts. It’s been so hot and humid here and my Tinley’s in swim knit are perfect! (Sorry, no pics~ I can’t walk with my tripod lol)

My husband and I went on a nice long bike ride and of course I wore a Tinley skort(made in swim knit) for that as well. I also wore my white linen Aria blouse for bug protection. This isn’t a great photo, but I didn’t want to hold up everyone trying to get the perfect picture.

I also went to New Hope, PA (right across the Delaware River from NJ) to see a show at the Bucks County Playhouse. It was a super cute musical~ perfect for anyone who loves music from the early 60’s. (My sister and I were actually some of the youngest ones there!). It was 90 degrees when we came out of the theater at 9 pm! I was so glad I wore my linen Timbre Dress. I think I need another version of this dress as well. There is NOTHING cooler than linen + Timbre dress!

On Saturday, my girlfriend’s son was playing in a baseball tournament down the road from my house~ so I rode my bike to watch and wore my new seersucker Aria button-down.

What Else Did I Wear?

What I’m Sewing This Week

This week I finished up my final version of the Love Notions new Meadowlark Pants. Let me tell you ….I haven’t sewn pants for myself in 10 years. My weight fluctuates so much and these pull on pants are perfect for me! The release date is set for Tuesday, July 29 so be such to look for them. I, of course, put my “classic preppy” twist to them. Be sure to read all my thoughts and tips on my Meadowlark blog post which will get sent out on release day.

Here is a little sneak peek at the back pockets. These also have front pockets big enough for your phone and optional cargo pockets on the legs!

I was also able to sew up one of the new Arias I had in my plans for the week. This Ikat Floral linen/rayon blend will be perfect to wear during the remainder of the summer into fall. It’s needs a good pressing~ but I’m gonna wait until my new iron gets here! Read below for the scoop on my iron situation. I was also able to cut out my red & blue striped linen Aria as well.

My beloved Oliseo iron decided to leak brown liquid (not from the steam vents) so I wasn’t able to get my second Aria sewn up. My old Rowenta loves to leak water as well :(. I contacted Oliseo and we went through some troubleshooting steps~ and it was then decided that they would replace it for me. (Three year warranty!). I had to cut the cord, send them a picture of it and now they are going to send me a new iron.

Soooooo. I’ve decided that I will cut out a few projects for next week until my new iron arrives.

What iron do you use? Im open to suggestions. I really need to have a back up iron.

Sewing Plans For Next Week

Hopefully I will be able to get in some sewing next week. I simply can’t sew without a good iron. I am a firm believer that pressing as you go can take your garment to the next level!

This is my sewing goal for next week…

  • Red & Blue Striped Aria~ cut out and ready to go!
  • Laundry Day Tee Dresses~ one RCF swim knit, one Designer Deadstock(Jude Connelly) UPF knit from Surge Fabrics
  • Chambray Tinley Skirt
  • Raspberry Creek Fabric Fall Release Strike-offs. The fabrics haven’t gotten to me yet. They will release on 7/29.

Thanks for reading “The Weekly Stitch”! I’m so happy you took the time to “visit” my sewing room! If you have any iron recommendations, please leave me a comment!

Candid Photos From The Columbia Trail (Highbridge, NJ- Long Valley, NJ)

These are just a few of the photos I took on our 24 mile bike ride on this trail. My sister and her husband came along for this ride too. We rode from Highbridge to Long Valley where we stopped for lunch, then we rode back to Highbridge. This is such a beautiful trail, I can’t wait to ride it in the Fall when the leaves are changing colors!

I always enjoy your posts, seeing your makes, and reading about your fabric choices. I have many Love Notions patterns, but not the Cadence. Your link applied the discount automatically, super easy. Sometimes I tell myself “you don’t need another pattern” but I couldn’t resist it today.

Thanks for writing about the Cadence and your other makes. I am coming back to garment making, and I’m amazed people can sew a top, dress etc in a week ( or less). I will keep practising!
