What Fabric Should You Use For The Allegros?

It’s been a hot and humid summer. The Allegros would be perfect sewn up in double gauze, linen or linen blends. Chambray would also work really well, and even rayon challis or rayon poplin! Be sure to search “Allegro” in the Facebook Group so you can see all the Allegros that have been posted. It is so helpful to see how a pattern looks sewn up in different fabrics and on different body types. This is exactly what I do whenever I am sewing a new to me pattern.

What I Wore Last Week

Last week was my annual Sisters’ Trip to Cape May, NJ. We had some really unpredictable weather but it was great as always! I don’t have many good photos to share, because my sister isn’t the best at taking photos and I didn’t want to spend too much time trying to get that perfect photo. It does however make me appreciate my husband so much! I never realized how GOOD he has gotten at taking photos for me!

I drove down wearing Loop Knit Terry LDT as a coverup over my Clearwater Swim Dress. Then after dropping our bags off at the inn, we went straight to the beach!

We walked on the promenade and the beach each morning. Of course, I wore my Tinley Skorts made in swim knit. We got caught in a few rain showers, and the swim knit was perfect for this! It dries so quickly!.

Our last day the weather was beautiful so I wore a Laundry Day Tee dress made in swim fabric to catch a couple hours on the beach before we headed home. I then proceeded to drive home wearing it!

The evenings were hot and humid, which not typical for Cape May at all! So double gauze came to the rescue (again)! My navy double gauze Timbre top and Caprice skirt have become a staple in my wardrobe this summer! The second pic below you can tell for sure I got caught in some rain! Another Caprice skirt with a white linen Aria blouse on top.

What I’m Sewing This Week

These were the “sewing plans” I mentioned in last week’s Weekly Stitch. I knew they were a bit ambitious~ and I didn’t get to them all since my week just got busier as it went on. Plus my daughter and her husband (along with new puppy Mabel) are coming down from the city today(Friday) for lunch and a visit. So, that meant I had other things to attend to than sewing!

  • Woven Tinley Skirts: Pink/Red Tropical Stretch Twill and Madras Patchwork ~ Stretch Twill done, Madras just needs to be hemmed.
  • Short Sleeved Linen Arias: Red/Blue Stripe and Blue Ikat Floral~ DID NOT GET TO!
  • Timbre Tops: Rayon Challis. I recently made my first rayon challis version and it is just so lightweight and cool. I’ve got a huge stash of rayon challis prints to choose from. ~ I got 2 sewn. These are PERFECT for hot and humid weather! So lightweight and flowy.

I’m also am working on my final version of the Love Notions new Meadowlark Hiking Pants. I never sew pants, and I’m really liking these! I’m using a featherweight stretch denim and I think these are going to work great for bike riding when it cools down! Pattern is set to release this month, so be on the lookout! I, of course, will have a full blog post dedicated to the new pattern. I will include my sizing and fitting modifications along with some tips for sewing them up.

Sewing Plans For Next Week

I’m going to try and not be too ambitious this week!

  • Finish up Final Test for the Meadowlark Hiking Pants for Love Notions
  • I have some Fall Promotional Strike-Offs to sew for Raspberry Creek Fabrics. (A LN Constellation for myself and 2 Brindle & Twig Lounge Sweatshirts for my great nephew and niece)
  • Two Short Sleeved Arias that I didn’t get to this week. (Stripe linen and Ikat floral)
  • If time allows~ a Tinley skort in a chambray or featherweight denim and perhaps another Timbre top.

Thanks for reading “The Weekly Stitch”! I’m so happy you took the time to “visit” my sewing room! If there is any topic you’d like to learn more about, feel free to leave me a comment and I’ll try to address it during one of my Weekly Stitches.

Fabric Resources

Swim Knit

I purchase all my swim knit from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. Every Spring they release a whole new collection of swim prints. You may also custom print any past years collections or from their Designer Library, Their swim knit is some of the best quality I have ever sewn with. You won’t be disappointed.

Rayon Challis

The 2 Timbres are both sewn with custom printed rayon challis from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. RCF has plenty of designs for sale at retail pricing (very reasonable) and the you can custom print just about anything you may want on their rayon challis base. I find that RCF Rayon Challis is not as shifty as some others, making it very easy to work with especially for beginners.

Navy Double Gauze

This was gifted to me by Raspberry Creek Fabrics in the Spring in return for a promotional post. It has been promoted more than they every asked for since I wear it ALL the time. (If fact I am going to a show tonight at the Bucks County Playhouse in PA and I REALLY want to wear it again since it is so perfect for hot and humid weather!). They have double gauze in several different colors. You can find them all HERE.

Tinley Skorts

Both of these fabrics were purchased from the NYC Garment District.

A Few Candid Photos From My Cape May, NJ Getaway

FYI~ in case you ever get to the Southern most tip of New Jersey. Cape May is a great spot to spend a few days or even a week! Plenty of excellent restaurants and places to stay. There are a few bigger hotels along Ocean Avenue and plenty of historic Bed and Breakfasts.(There are also many many homes to rent). We always stay at the Carroll Villa Inn. Our stay includes breakfast at The Mad Batter. As guests we get seated right away, but there is ALWAYS a line down Jackson Street of people waiting to get in. The Mad Batter also serves my favorite crab cakes.

The last few photos are from Jackson Street (where our Inn is located), some are private homes, a bed and breakfast and a home for rent (weekly or monthly).

    hi Mary

Recently found your newsletter, thoroughly enjoying it.

Wonder can you help me with aria. I have made two and find on both, neckline and collar too big. I use the full bust version. I would say I am an experienced beginner, if that makes sense.

Wonder do you have any suggestions that might help

    Regards

    Irene

HI!, I’m so glad you’re enjoying my little blog! As far as sizing for your Aria, I would suggest starting by double checking your high bust measurement, you may need to make a smaller size for the neck and shoulder area, which will help with your problem.
To really fix your fitting issue, body measurements and photos are needed to diagnose the issue. The Love Notions Facebook group is the fastest way to get help with this issue. Most the LN Ambassadors are very active there and some of them are truly experts at fitting and diagnosing issues. Two heads (or twenty) are better than one when problem solving!
