Hi friends!
Today’s blog post features a new to me fabric sewn into a pattern I have made a few times already- the York Pinafore from Helen’s Closet.

I really wanted a new York for fall, and I thought this beautiful Black, Brown and Cream Houndstooth Check Ponte would be perfect! RCF Ponte is a nice stable knit that is so easy to work with. It is thicker and more structured than other knits, but the stretch makes it so comfortable to wear. For this reason, I thought this Ponte would work for the York Pinafore. And I was right! You can find this awesome Ponte here!
I can not say enough good things about this Ponte knit. It’s soft, it stretches, it’s comfy and it is so easy to sew with. If you’re a beginner to knit fabrics, this is a great one to start with!

PATTERN DETAILS
The York Pinafore is a fun and casual jumper that is designed for wovens, but as you can see here, a nice stable knit works! I made View B with the high neck and kangaroo pocket. You can see other York options here.
I did make a few adjustments to the pattern to make it work best for me. First and most importantly I have a large bust. Because of the open sides on this jumper design, it’s not necessary to do an FBA. I did however add 1” to the width of the bib pattern piece to ensure I didn’t have too much “side boob”. 😂

I also shortened the bib 1” in the front and 2” in the back to account for my 5’ height(or lack of it). (I didn’t shorten the full 2” in the front because of my full bust.)

I finished this jumper a few weeks ago, but on the day I convinced my husband we HAD to gets photos for the blog post, I decided it was too long. Okay, the truth is he had already taken the photos and upon looking at them I didn’t like the length- so I ran inside, cut off the 2” hem and then hemmed it 1”. I’m so much happier with it now! Here’s a little peek of the too long length.

And for fun, here’s a selfie of me and my awesome husband who never complains about taking photos(until it’s Me Made May)!

Thanks for stopping by and reading my little blog!
