This Week’s Sewing News (What I’m Sewing & Thinking About Sewing This Week)

I had big sewing plans this week. While on vacation I was making all kind of lists in my head. Yes, I’m one of those that think about what I want to sew when I’m away from my sewing room. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a chance to get anything really sew up. I didn’t lose my sewjo~ I’ve just been struggling with some minor migraines this week. Instead I’ve been tidying up my sewing room

I’m on a girl’s trip to Rehoboth Beach, DE this week which limited my sewing time as well. A few of my retired teacher friends and I are headed down for some shopping, eating out and lots of laughs! One of the things I miss the most about teaching is my daily lunches~ they were always the best 22 minutes ever!!! Rehoboth Beach is well known on the East Coast for tons of outlet stores. I plan on buying a few basics and looking for lots of inspiration. (DE is tax free btw!). I’m hoping to find a quilt I can use to make a new LN Coda Coat. I love the pink version I made, but I’m hoping to find a quilt with a smaller more neutral print. Here is the one I made during the Coda release.

I will continue working on my pattern test for Love Notions. I’m really excited for this one~ I think you’re gonna like it too!!!

My custom printed sweatshirt fleece from Raspberry Creek Fabrics got here. I have plans to make a LN Aria button-down with one of them. Below is a picture of them along with the Inspiration button-down I saw in my local Macy’s. Hanging on the same rack where fleece vests in pink and cream. I have a pink fleece LN Oakley vest I plan to wear along with this. Read more about this fabric below in the Fabric Resources section.

My Fall Sewing Plans

I’m trying NOT to add anything to this Fall Sewing List that I worked on a few weeks back. But as sewists who are we kidding?!?!? I’ve been seeing so many quilted jackets the past few week that I really want to make another Coda Coat so I added one to my list!

  • LN Aria Button downs
    • Corduroy ~Woodland print that I purchased last fall from Style Maker Fabrics
    • Sweatshirt fleece, pink plaid that I ordered from RCF~ Arrived!
    • Jacket hack in Navy linen~ just received from Mood Fabrics
  • LN Timbre Top long sleeved button front version. COMPLETE!!
    • Block print cotton voile ~has in stash from Blackbird Fabrics.
    • Perhaps a Rayon challis version? Found perfect rayon challis in my deep stash (10 yrs old?)
    • Bonus Sew~ Green Double Gauze from last big Joann Fabrics haul
  • LN Constellations
    • Navy Speckle Sweatshirt Fleece~ in stash from Style Maker Fabrics
    • Oatmeal and Fuchsia floral sweatshirt fleece~ in stash from Style Maker Fabrics
  • LN Clef Coat
    • Gray Sweatshirt fleece~ in stash from ????
    • Navy Boucle purchased a few years ago from Style Maker Fabrics
  • LN Oakley Vest
    • Quilted Sweater knit from stash~ from Style Maker Fabrics(2023 & 2024)
    • Purple quilted fabric ~Style Maker Fabrics from last year

Fabric Resources

Double Knit Rib Fabric or “Urban Rib”

This is a great fabric for cardigans. I have two and I wear them constantly. Some shops call it Urban Rib or Urban Wave Rib but it technically is a double knit jacquard rib knit. If you do a Google search you will find many shops carry it. Here are the shops I have purchased it from in the past.

Raspberry Creek Fabrics currently has several colors on clearance for just$2.99- $3.99 per half yard. You can find them here.

Mily Mae fabrics as a few “Urban Wave” rib fabrics in the shop right now. They most likely will be stocking new colors soon. You can find them HERE.

Boho Fabrics also has some “Urban Rib” on sale. See them HERE.

Raspberry Creek Fabrics Sweatshirt Fleece

Raspberry Creek Sweatshirt Fleece is warm and cozy yet not has heavy or bulky as some others. It has a slight weathered appearance which just adds to its appeal. It does have limited stretch so is isn’t suitable for all knit patterns. It’s 240gsm and 72% Poly/25% Rayon/3% Spandex.

It does sewn up nicely into the LN Constellation and LN Compose Robe. I think it’s gonna make the perfect “Shacket” with the LN Aria button-down!

RCF has some sweatshirt fleece prints that you can order retail at $12.98 per yard. You can see them all HERE. However, I wanted to try and replicate the button-down I saw in Macy’s. Therefore, I searched through all the custom designs (there are 100,000 probably) to find a pink plaid I liked the most. I was able to narrow the search down by using the search bar and typing in “pink plaids”. From there I saved all the ones I like to my “Wish List”. Then I went through my wish list and picked my favorites. One thing to remember is that you can adjust the scale of any print/plaid to your liking. Custom printed sweatshirt fleece is $19.98 per yard. TIP: I always keep a ton of prints (217 to be exact) in my wish list. RCF has sales on custom printing quite often. Whenever there is one I will go to my wish list and pick something to have printed. Below is a look at my “Wish List”.
