What I Wore Last Week

It was a nice quiet week ~ got some sewing done and spent time with different family members. Dinner and walking the river boardwalk with my sister, a 31.5 mile bike ride with my husband and lunches with my daughters who came down from the city. It was a great week! Looking back it looks like it was Aria week!!

  • Plaid seersucker LN Timbre~ this fabric is from Style Maker Fabrics 2 years ago
  • Jude Connelly UPF Fabric from Surge~ LN LDT Dress
  • LN Melody Dolman over my LDT dress for a river walk.
  • LN Aria and LN Tinley Skort for a bike ride. (Chambray-NYC and RCF Swim knit)
  • LN Aria in Linen/Rayon blend from Chic Fabrics (NYC)
  • LN Aria in Blue/Red Linen Stripe from Graylines Line (NYC)
  • Ln Aria in Navy gingham Linen from Metro Textiles (NYC) with white baby rickrack trim

What I’m Sewing This Week

This week my main focus was to sew and write for my special blog post about drape for Raspberry Creek Fabrics. Did you ever wonder how the same pattern can look so different when sewn up in different fabrics? The finished look is affected by: fabric type, fabric weight and the drape of the fabric. Stay tuned for the full blog post over on the Raspberry Creek Fabrics Blog (on their website). I’ll post a link when available. Here is the link to the Raspberry Creek Fabrics Blog post I wrote.

Here is a sneak peek at the 3 fabrics that I used. These photos show how differently each ones drapes.

This is what I sewed this week:

  • 3 LN Timbre Tops in 3 different fabrics in the above fabrics.
  • LN Timbre Dress~ a last minute sew for my trip. Photo coming after vacation!
  • LN Tinley Skort in RCF Swim knit. (Needed another one to take with me!)

My Sewing Plans For Next Week

I’m not making any sewing plans for next week since I’ll be away! Sunday we are headed to Newport, RI to visit my husband’s family and friends. We haven’t been there in quite a few years, so it will be a busy trip trying to fit everything in.

I promise I’ll take lots of photos in all my MeMades!

Thanks for reading “The Weekly Stitch”! I’m so happy you took the time to “visit” my sewing room!  If you’d like more information on a specific topic, leave me a comment and maybe I’ll be able to do a blog post of all questions and answers!

Fabric Resources

I understand how the closing of Joann Fabrics has impacted so many of you! Although I didn’t buy much fabric there anymore (my Joann had very little apparel fabric), I did get all my thread and some notions there.

I’m a “fabric snob”~ I admit it. My mother and grandmother taught me to be one. I love high quality fabrics. Sometimes they are expensive and other times you can get a good deal on them. Over the years of ordering fabrics online, I have found some great resources. Each week in the “Weekly Stitch” I try to provide you with all the links when possible.

I am very fortunate to live close to the NYC Garment District. It costs me $20 round-trip to take the bus in~ which is the most practical way. Most of the shops are on 37th, 38th and 39th Streets between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. The cost of my bus ticket is way less than shipping from online stores. I typically convince one of my daughters to meet me for lunch when I go up~ added bonus! One of these days I’ll write up a blog post on shopping in the NYC Garment district for fabric and notions in case you’re ever there.

These are my Go-To Online Fabric Shops~ I love these shops for their fabric quality and customer service

Raspberry Creek Fabrics~ best Swim knit and rayon challis in my opinion. So many options at retail pricing and thousands of designs available for custom printing. Custom printing may also be done on double gauze and stretch crepe! If you sew for children~ you can’t beat their Cotton Jersey and French Terry.

Surge Fabrics~ High quality fabrics, many staples and at times Designer deadstock

Cali Fabrics~ great selection of basics along with Designer Deadstock fabrics. Follow them on Facebook as the owner Ron posts a video each week of new fabrics he is adding to their site. Sometimes these fabrics go quickly!

Style Maker Fabrics~ This is an actual brick and mortar store located in Washington state. They just happen to have a great online store as well! Carefully curated fabric collections and staples selected by a mother and daughter team. In September they will have a big release of their new Fall/Winter Collection. Sign up for their newsletter and be sure to include your birthdate. You will receive a 20% off coupon to use during your birthday month. I’m so lucky that I get that coupon in September just in time for the big release.

Blackbird Fabrics~This is a Canadian company. Very high quality linen, linen blends and cotton voile block prints.

Bonus Photos from Our Bike Ride on the Columbia Trail

This is one of our most favorite trails to ride. This week we rode 31.5 miles and I reached 500 miles on my new bike!!
