The Lyric Dress and Peplum would be such a perfect addition to your summer and upcoming fall wardrobe. It is loaded with so many options! Fabrics For the Lyric (and Dolce)

The Lyric is designed for light to medium weight woven fabrics. Fabrics such as line, chambray, rayon and poplin would all work nicely. Rayon Challis is the perfect option for a Lyric with the Flutter sleeve. The Linen/Viscose blends from Blackbird Fabrics and Surge Fabrics that I feature below would work beautifully for the Lyric (and/or Dolce). Be sure to scroll to the Fabric Resources section below!

The Dolce Dress for girls is a sweet simple dress designed for woven fabrics. It includes a button front option along with 4 sleeve options. Grab the Dolce and make an adorable Mommy & Me set for someone in your family.

What I Wore Last Week…

It was another hot and humid week last week! Here is proof just how much I wear my Tinley Skorts/Skirts and the Laundry Day Tee Dresses. These are my go-to memades for hot and humid weather.

  • Swim Knit Tinley Skort~ My husband caught we walking back up the street from the lake. Five days a week I have been walking every morning. Each day I wear a Tinley Skort made in swim knit from Raspberry Creek Fabrics.
  • I wore the Patchwork Madras Tinley straight skirt for a day of shopping.
  • I also ALWAYS wear a Tinley skort made with swim knit (RCF) when we go on our (almost) weekly bike rides. We were out early that morning so it was a bit cooler~ I had an LN Aria made in cotton tencel chambray over my tank while riding.

I’ve had several people ask if I make my tank tops (and what pattern I use). Sorry, that is one of the things I don’t sew for myself. I have found ready to wear ones that check off all the requirements for me.

  • Shoulder straps cover bra straps
  • Don’t gape under the arm
  • Aren’t too long or short(cropped) on me. Added bonus: the have a small split hem
  • 100% cotton with no spandex. I don’t like my tank tops to be too “huggy”
  • I can buy them for way less than I can make them!

You can find them here. It is late in the season here, so they may not have all the colors in all the sizes. Every spring I order new ones if I need them. I never pay more than $8 for them. We have a physical store in our town, but I often order most of my online to get the colors/size I want.

What Else I Did I Wear Last Week?

  • A LDT Dress in a Pink Geometric Designer Deadstock from Surge Fabrics was perfect for a day at home sewing.
  • A LDT Coverup worn over my Clearwater Swim Essentials swim dress. I went to my nieces for a day floating around the pool with my sister and my 4 and 5 year old great niece and nephew while she picked up their indoor mess. I added a puff sleeve for fun. This is made with Loop French Terry from RCF.

What I’m Sewing This Week…

I got a late start to my weekly sewing because of my iron situation. My iron has arrived and the sewing eventually commenced! How pretty is she? This is my third Oliseo iron~ I know, I know. My Rowena iron latest me years (10?). But there is just something about the ease of sewing with this iron. It’s lightweight, yet presses like a dream. It also has amazing steam. The irons do come with a three year warranty~ and because of this I may be on my third iron but I have only purchased one! After troubleshooting with them via chat~ each time they have sent me a brand new iron. (My first stopped producing the burst of steam and the second was leaking a brown liquid from the “foot”). I’m still open to purchasing another iron ~ but haven’t decided what direction to go. I mean I dream of a gravity feed iron~ but not sure I want to give up the space needed for one.

This is what I planned on sewing this week~ I did fairly well considering I got a late start!

  • Red & Blue Striped Aria~ I’m working on this now and should have it done tonight!
  • Laundry Day Tee Dresses~ one RCF swim knit, one Designer Deadstock(Jude Connelly) UPF knit from Surge Fabrics~ FINISHED BOTH!
  • Chambray Tinley Skirt~Not sewn yet and I’ve been sidetracked and bumped this down my list.
  • Raspberry Creek Fabric Fall Release Strike-offs~ Update: The fabrics still haven’t arrived. They were released on 7/29. They are $1 off regular price per yard through 8/3. What I’m hoping will arrive this weekend can be seen under Fabric Resources.

I did something different with both of these LDT dresses. I like to add length to mine to cover my knees. I didn’t have quite enough fabric, so I did not place the back piece of the fold and flipped the direction of the piece when cutting out. *Remember to add your 3/8″ seam allowance along the center back if doing this. Remember this can only be done if the fabric design is NOT directional. By doing this I am able to buy 1/2 yard less fabric. Many shops only sell fabric in full yards~ this tip saves me money since I can get this LDT out of 2 yards instead of having to buy three. Some shops like RCF sell by the 1/2 yard, but I still like saving $ when I can. (You can see the center back seam in the light blue geometric version.

Sewing Plans For Next Week…

This is my sewing goal for next week~I’m getting ready for a vacation to Newport, RI later this month to visit my husband’s family so most of what I’m working on is to take with me.

  • Two woven Tinley Skirts (see fabrics below). These will be perfect for casual outdoor dining.
  • Raspberry Creek Fabrics Fall Strike-Offs. Will include the following:
    • 2 French Terry LN Constellation Pullovers for me~ will batch sew these!
    • 2 Brindle & Twig Lounge Sweatshirts for my great nephew and niece

I also received some HAPPY MAIL (fabric lol) this week from Cali Fabrics. This is one of my favorite online shops. Everything I have ever received from them is high quality. A lot of their fabrics are Designer Deadstock from the LA Fashion District. (Some from NY as well). I love following their Instagram and Facebook accounts to see what new arrivals they get in. New fabrics get released weekly! I’ve found that if I love something I need to buy it~ some of these tend to sell out and they aren’t always something they can reorder. Bonus: It comes packages so nicely too with an adorable postcard and sticker! P.S.~ they also offer a thread matching service( Mettler thread). I’m hoping to sew some of these in August~ but if not they will find a nice home in my stash 🙂

Here is what I got!!!!

  • Teal Burnout Cotton Gauze #30142
  • Pink and Orange Plaid Designer Cotton Gauze #30144
  • Man & Goanna Blue Australian Aboriginal Print Rayon Challis #29139
  • Hot Pink Layered Petal NYC Designer Cotton Eyelet #29139

Fabric Resources

Raspberry Creek Fabrics~

Here are the Fall Strike-off fabrics that I am waiting for from RCF. They will all be Cotton Spandex French Terry. You can see the new Fall line here.

Blackbird Fabrics ~ The Royal Blue and White shown above for a Tinley Skirt is a linen viscose blend from their exclusive print collection. It’s available in other colors and designs as well. The fabric from my pink lobster Aria I made last month is part of this collection as well. These fabrics would be perfect for a Lyric Dress or Peplum!

Surge Fabrics~

LDT Dresses~ Lt Blue Geometric Print is a Designer Deadstock Fabric from Jude Connelly that I purchased last summer, it is still available along several others on the website. This is a UPF fabric and is lighter weight than a swim knit. The Bright Pink Geometric fabric is also from this collection, but this one is no longer available.

The Navy Tropical Floral that I’ll be sewing into a Tinley is an Italian line/viscose blend. This print is still available along with several other prints. It is a nice midweight linen blend. These linen blends would also work nicely for the Lyric Dress!

Candid Photos From The Delaware & Raritan Trail~ Bulls Island to Frenchtown

We rode from Bulls Island up to Frenchtown, ate lunch at Chez Daniel (Quiche Lorraine for me!) and then back to Bulls Island. A total of 23.5 miles!
