What I Wore Last Week
Last week I wasn’t out and about much. I had a few sewing deadlines to meet~ sewing up some little girl clothes for my great niece along with testing a new Love Notions pattern.
I did go on a nice 23 mile bike ride on the D & R Canal Path from Bulls Island to Frenchtown for lunch and then back. Of course I wore my absolute favorite thing for bike riding ~ a Tinley Skort made in swim knit. (Custom printed from Raspberry Creek Fabrics).
This was the first Tinley I made where I used the wider 1.25″ elastic for the back rather than channels. You can see how I did this over on this blog post.

I also wore my navy double gauze Timbre top and Caprice skirt (AGAIN) for a 4th of July/4th Birthday party. (I’ve mentioned that I truly do need to make another of these outfits~ it is so perfect for hot weather!)
For an outdoor patriotic concert with our local municipal band, I wore a sleeveless LDT dress made from swim fabric. I brought my white linen long sleeved Aria blouse for when it got a tad cooler as it was by the river and is always a bit breezy. Seeing how often I grab this Aria, I really should make another one!

Note: Not all of my photos are from last week. I’m not always going to pose for a new photo each time I wear something. (Hope you understand :))
What I’m Sewing This Week
I’m on my annual Sisters’ Getaway to Cape May, NJ this week. If you aren’t familiar with Cape May, it’s a quaint Victorian seaside treat on the Atlantic Ocean. Every year my sister and I look forward to this trip for lots of beach time, good food, sister time and of course a Kohrs frozen custard (IYKYK).
However, I did do a bit of last minute sewing to fill a hole or 2 in my wardrobe. I whipped up 2 new Tinley Skorts using swim knit from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. The Bikes were a custom print, and the tie dye is from the swim release a few years ago. I. plan on wearing these while away so I hope to get a few photos. Unfortunately the remnants of Hurricane Chantelle are passing through, so we may have some rain. These quick drying swim knit skorts will be perfect for rainy days we might have.

passing through. That lower wall is actually white!!
I also finished up my fit test of the new hiking pants/shorts pattern from Love Notions. I’m pretty happy with how they are turning out. I will probably be making some adjustments to the fit for me. No worries, I’ll be writing up a blog post about them along with all alterations that I sewed. I NEVER sew pants~ and I LOVE these. Be sure to keep an eye out for their release later in July!
Sorry ๐ฆ no sneak peeks allowed!
That’s all the sewing I did this week since Iโm away for half of it!
Sewing Plans For Next Week (They are quite ambitious!)
Next week, I will be sewing up my final version of the new Meadowlark Hiking Pants. I’ve ordered a Cotton/Tencel 220 gsm denim from Cali Fabrics to use for them. I’m really excited about these pants. I’m hoping they will be perfect for bike rides in the Fall!
Since this summer has been much hotter than normal for us~ I’m going to work on sewing some things that will work really well in hot and humid weather. I wonder how many of these I can get sewn next week (and most likely into the following week)
- Woven Tinley Skirts: Pink/Red Tropical Stretch Twill and Madras Patchwork
- Short Sleeved Linen Arias: Red/Blue Stripe and Blue Ikat Floral
- Timbre Tops: Rayon Challis. I recently made my first rayon challis version (shown below) and it is just so lightweight and cool. I’ve got a huge stash of rayon challis prints to choose from.

- 1. Both of these fabrics were purchased in the NYC garment district (Chic Fabrics)
- 2. Purchased in the NYC garment district ( floral ikat-Chic, Stripe-Grayline Linens)
- 3. Left Column from top to bottom: Chic Fabric (NYC), Raspberry Creek Fabrics(custom), Raspberry Creek Fabrics (Custom), Style Maker Fabrics
- Right Column from top to bottom: Top 2 are both Art Gallery Rayons from my deep stash, Teal Floral is from Style Maker Fabrics.

Fabric Resources
Swim Knit
I purchase all my swim knit from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. Every Spring they release a whole new collection of swim prints. You may also custom print any past years collections or from their Designer Library, Their swim knit is some of the best quality I have ever sewn with. You won’t be disappointed.
Rayon Challis
My favorite sources for quality rayon challis are Raspberry Creek Fabrics and Style Maker Fabrics.
RCF has plenty of designs for sale at retail pricing (very reasonable) and the you can custom print just about anything you may want on their rayon challis base. I find that RCF Rayon Challis is not as shifty as some others, making it very easy to work with especially for beginners.
Style Maker has some wonderful Rayon Challis as well. Some are imported from Europe, which makes them a tad more expensive(but also very high quality).
Linen
I would love to give you a great online source for linen, however I haven’t purchased any linen online for a few years. I am fortunate to like just close enough to NYC that I take several trips in a year to purchase fabrics. Gray Lines Linen is my go to for ALL my solid color linen and I often find nice stripes there as well. You can order from then online(but you do pay a bit more per yard plus shipping). My favorite is their Handkerchief Linen~ it’s available in 43 different colors!
If you ever have the opportunity to visit the Garment District in NYC, these stores always have nice linen as well. The stock is always changing since most of these fabrics are Designer deadstock fabrics. These are also the 2 stores I NEVER miss stopping into every time I am there.

- Metro Textiles
Here is a picture of my fabric haul from June (notice I am trying to get them sewn up quickly!) along with a picture of my daughter, myself and Kashi from Metro Textiles! Be sure to follow Kashi on Instagram to see all the awesome fabrics he gets in along with sale notifications! @Metrotextilesnyc on Insta or his website www.metrotextilesnyc.com
If any of you ever happen to be in NYC, reach out to me! I can give you some pointers, and if you’d like I could even meet you there! It’s always great to fabric shop with a friend!

Which reminds me of a shopping trip last summer. A sewing friend I “met” years ago through Instagram visited the city and we met up for a visit to the FIT Museum, lunch and fabric shopping. Be sure to follow her over on Instagram ~ @soisewedthis, she has an amazing collection of MeMade dresses. Scroll down to see a pic of us that Kashi posted on his Instagram! Notice the fabric in Kashi’s hand? It became a Love Notions Bandcamp shirt.
